David: Two New Amazing Videos From Graham Raubvogel

We did a big post on Graham back in June as an introduction post. Recently he released these two videos on his Vimeo page for everyone to see. Check them out below:

Graham was asked by my school district to create a film that envisions the high school education of the future.

The world is changing. Exponential globalization and the growth of the internet have presented new challenges to our nation's struggling education system.

From a student perspective, this documentary explores the problems we face and the tremendous opportunities we are in the position to take advantage of.

IT'S TIME TO WAKE UP is Gatsby-meets-the-Y-Generation.

It's a surreal high school dramedy about a young man, Conrad, and the hopes and expectations he has for a girl, that have blown up far beyond reality.

David: TKFV Introduction - Graham Raubvogel (Director)

Recently I have been in contact with one of Vermont's most talented people, Graham Raubvogel. After making movies on his mom’s old Hi-8 camcorder for years, in 2006 Raubvogel began interning at CCTV as a cameraman, and eventually director, of the live thirty-minute show, “Live at 5:25.”

Since then, he has directed numerous short films, ranging from fictional narrative, to short documentary, to music video, and has taken first place at the Santa Monica Teen Film Festival as well as “Best Student Short” at the Vermont International Film Festival (a category in which he was the only high school filmmaker competing against college submissions). His work has been screened at many other venues nationwide, including the National Film Festival for Talented Youth (NFFTY) and the Frameline International Film Festival in San Francisco.

Graham continues to work on building his skill set through an assortment of projects, mentors, and peers. This summer he will be heading out west to take Chinese at UCLA, as well as to partake in a variety of film and new media opportunities. When he returns, principal photography will begin on, "Opposite the Sun," a fictional web series he is directing and writing for Brick Oven Media. As well as this, he enjoys chilling with friends, running, learning Chinese, taking risks, making mistakes, and all that other stuff that people tend to do.

This mini-doc explores the Westboro Baptist Church's visit to Vermont to protest gays, Jews, Catholics, and pretty much anyone that's not them. Through a diverse set of interviewees, a unique contrast of experienced and youthful perspectives are offered on First Amendment privileges, social activism, and the "correct" response to this vehement* hate speech.
