David: TKFV Introduction - Dave Raps (Rapper)

Dave Raps

Recently we've been in touch with a rapper out of New York named Dave Raps. At first we were introduced by a fan named Chad Phillips and after listening to one song Gray and myself were impressed with the sound. Immediately Chad got us in touch with his manager and the rest is history. Another dope music addition to the TKFV family. Check out his biography and some music below.

Biography:

Music is evolving and heading in a different direction, and there are a handful of up and coming artists who understand that; Dave Raps is one of them. Born and raised in Yonkers, New York, Dave was always around reggae music growing up in a Caribbean home. It wasn't until his family made a migration to the south when he realized that the change of scenery would change him. Central Florida became his new home in 2004, and he felt like his new southern surroundings lacked the culture and the pace that New York had to offer. During the next four years, Dave found himself working at jobs he didn't see a future in, and trying to find out what he was put on this earth for.

Dave Raps first started working on his craft in 2008 when he felt like he needed a purpose for the rest of his life, and he never turned back. His music is unique in the sense that he bridges honesty with creativity. His music is a blend of inner thoughts and outer influences. Dave is in tune with what people want to hear from rappers and he's been a student of the game ever since he bought his first mic. With time, he hopes to bring his sound to the forefront, and become one of the newest voices in hip-hop.

David: Sarah Kjelleren Photo of the Week! (Wednesday)

Sarah Kjelleren & Myself
Hey, hi, hello. The "Photo of the Week" post didn't go anywhere... just went away for a little bit. So sorry for the recent absence, but it's back. This weeks photo is of Emy Geer, who I actually met the day this photo was taken. I remember Sarah was extremely excited for this one because it involved water, clothes, and the great addition of a beautiful girl. And once again Sarah did what she does best. I love the lighting and colors in this shot and the mysterious and heartbroken vibe shown. Great job once again. Check it out below:

David: Coca-Cola “Burn Ignite” With Steve Berra (Video)

I'd like to start off by saying this looks epic! Steve Berra (The Berrics) joins Mexican skaters Jesus Gonzalez, Eder Martinez, Mario Saenz, Angel Santiago and American Luis Tolentino for this Burn Ignite film, shot on location in Mexico City.

This film was created alongside two short-form documentaries, one featuring Jess Kimura and the all girl hardcore snowboarding film collective Peep Show, the other is a portrait that celebrates the electric lyrics and gritty beat artistry of rapper/poet Julius Wright, aka Lyrical God. All are part of a new campaign from Coca-Cola’s Burn energy drink. Further information available here.

David: The Roots x John Legend x The Fire (Video)

Man do I hope this is the new age of music when it comes to music videos. Sure, sex sells, but creativity and inspiration shown in videos is what I love. Recently I've fallen in love with videos like M.I.A.'s "Born Free" and also The Roots last music video for their song, "Dear God." Here's the recent visuals for, "The Fire, by The Roots and John Legend directed by Rik Cordero. Enjoy!

David: Moncler V Lookbook

One of my favorite French luxury sports brands, Moncler, just released their Moncler V lookbook on their website. The lookbook is revolved around a Fall/Winter theme and features everything from outerwear, to knits, trousers, and accessories. They also show their collaboration with widely popular Japanese label visvim on a pair of classic Serra boots. Check it out below:

Gray: HBO Interview

If any of you have been watching Entourage lately, you have been seeing a lot of Scott Lavin. In the show his character is currently trying to take Vince from E, and in the last episode things heated up between the two, ending in the destruction of Vince's new dinosaur skull. Here is what the real Scott [Lavin] has to say about playing a similar character to himself in the show.

David: Michael Jordan is Back!

Okay... So not actually back in real life, but it's close enough. This is my favorite sports game of all time and it's cool to see a big addition to the next one. And not only will you be able to play as Jordan, but there will be a new gameplay mode called, The Jordan Challenge, where you can become MJ and relive some of his greatest games. Nice.

David: I'm Back!

Yeah, you probably didn't even know I was gone, but for the past couple days I have been in New York City with my good friend CJ Bowman checking out some of the trade shows that have been going on. So I'd like to say I'm officially back!
This was probably one of the craziest trips that I have been on and one of the most productive. For those that aren't familiar with what a trade show is, these were the upcoming 2011 seasons from over 400 featured clothing companies in the three shows we went to (Capsule, Agenda, and ENK). Each of these held different companies and a large amount of clothing. My favorite was probably Capsule, which was held in a 5 story building lined with companies from Naked & Famous to Ben Sherman (for a full list click here). There are still pictures to come from our trip, but I'd like to thank CJ Bowman, OKAY!! OKAY!!, Create Build Destroy, and Steez for a good trip. Hope all the TKFV followers have had a good couple days as well!

Gray: Kicks of the Week

Sorry the Kicks of the Week has been slackin' a bit, my summer mindset has been more of relax and chill than get down to work, but things are moving back in the right direction. With that said, this week we've got what looks to be a pretty basic sneaker, but its unique in its own ways. The SeventyFive X Onitsuka Tiger reminded me first of a mix between a Nike Toki ND and the Converse CTS but a bit taller. The shoe is fresh and basic, but includes gold lacetips, a gold eyelet on both sides, monochromatic laces/inner lining and the word ‘SeventyFive’ along the quarter panel. Only 150 of these have been released to select retailers, so if you want in you better jump on these fast.

David: Boogie x "The Uncovering" Exhibition

One of my favorite photographers, Boogie, has had a showing going on at the Carmichael Gallery in Los Angeles, California. He's known mostly for his black & white photography, but in this exhibition Boogie shows off an addition of color to his style. His fondness for street photography continues, documenting often overlooked aspects of everyday life, but is presented in a new way. Check it out below:

David: Ron Dias x Way Past Love (Album Trailer)

Ron Dias

Just the other day we came in contact with Ron Dias, a rapper out of Toronto. He introduced us to his album trailer and a few other songs he had done and after listening to the first I was already in love with what I was hearing. This guy carries with him his own distinct and unique mix of old school and a love for music that is rooted in him.

In 2005, Ron began to chase the spotlight and joined Brothers From Different Mothers, a band who’s music only boosted Ron’s already eclectic and diverse style. Fusing multiple sounds from grimy hip hop to deep soul and live band. Brothers From Different Mothers competed and won in the Emergenza Festival’s Battle of the Bands in year claiming title for Best Band in Ontario. After many shows at big Toronto venues such as Nathan Phillips Square, Dundas Square, Queens Park, Revival Nightclub, and performances at University of Toronto, York University, Centennial College, Mc Master University, Ryerson University, Ron began tasting a little bit of a solo artist’s career. In March 2008 Ron was sent to California to perform at an industry jam with reps from Vibe magazine, Universal, Sony, BMG where he schooled the crowd with some of his solo material.

By the fall of 2008 Ron put out his first radio single, his ode "Toronto" featuring Blake Carrington. Along with this track came an equally authentic music video, which is attached below, representing what Toronto means to him. Check out his upcoming album trailer, Way Past Love, and his single "Toronto," below:

David: Sarah Kjelleren Photo of the Week!

Sarah Kjelleren

Sarah Kjelleren calls this photo, "The Alien Ship." There is something very awry and interesting going on in this photo, but also peaceful and beautiful as well. This bright blue "Alien" cloud, which is reflected against the lake, almost takes over the whole sky. A scenic picture that took me a few moments to see what is actually going on... appropriately dubbed "The Alien Ship" for a reason. Check it out below:

David: Netherlands vs. Spain (World Cup Final)

Netherlands

Today is the day the Netherlands go head to head with Spain to decide who is the best soccer team in the world. It's going to be an interesting match up today and honestly even though I'm rooting for Spain I'm predicting it'll be a close game. The Dutch flew through their Group E stage defeating Denmark, Japan and Cameroon before taking down Slovakia in the round of 16, Brazil in the quarterfinals and Uruguay in the semifinals to reach the 2010 World Cup finals.

Spain

The Euro 2008 champions have not made an amazing run to the finals but still managed to get the job done by winning the Group H bracket in soccer betting lines over Chile, Switzerland and Honduras and then sent home Portugal in the round of 16, Paraguay in the quarterfinals and Germany in the semifinals.
So who do you have winning the World Cup? Netherlands or Spain?

David Update: Spain 1 - Netherlands 0

Rick Ross & Jay-Z

This is the CDQ to the "Free Mason" single off of Rick Ross's upcoming Teflon Don album dropping July 20th. I love the collaborations between Ricky and John Legend these days and of course with the addition of Jay-Z it completes this track so much more. The production by The Inkredibles for this beat is great as well with guitar samples and a smooth familiar sound we've seen Rick Ross rapping over these days. Check out the song below and download!

David: Lebron James Going to Miami

So it's going to look like this next year in Miami. Something I did not want at all (Lebron you should have chosen New York!), but what are you going to do. Congrats to all the TRUE die hard Miami fans out there and the promising upcoming season they have ahead of them. I'll be staying a Knicks fan forever no matter what. There till the end and hopefully they'll keep getting good players and going uphill from here. I don't know if this is good for the NBA now that three of the best players are on the same team. No one wants one team to steamroll over everyone (unless of course you're a Heat fan). The NBA needs competition. So all I'm wishing for now that Lebron James decided to join Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh on the Heat is for the competition to continue. I'm not giving up on my Knicks though! Let's go 2010-2011! Otherwise congratulations to Lebron James for finally making your decision. I hope the road ahead of you is a successful one.

David: Phil Adé's Chasing the Letter Parts 1-3

Recently one of my favorite up and coming rappers, Phil Adé, concluded his three part "Chasing The Letter" series for his upcoming project The Letterman which was released yesterday, July 6th. These three videos give a good insight and understanding behind who Phil Adé is, his rap career, and what he has planned for the future. Check them out below:

In the first installment we get to know Phil as he gives us a tour of his hometown, and sheds light on how his rap career got started.

In part 2 Phil talks about Raheem DeVaughn’s influence and how his vocals differ from Drake, CuDi and others.

In the final installment Phil goes through some of the tracks off his recently released project The Letterman.

David: Amar'e Stoudemire's Going to New York

Amar'e Stoudemire

Seems like Stoudemire's signing with New York is old news now, but being a die hard Knicks fan like myself I'm excited to see what's to come next. Amar'e is finally back and reunited with coach, Mike D'Antoni, and hopefully his presence on the Knicks will bring other talent to the team like, LEBRON JAMES. The longtime Phoenix Suns' forward announced this weekend that he's agreed to a five-year deal worth about $100 million and now, he's saying "The Knicks are back!" Keep that promise Amar'e I'm hoping I can actually say I'm a proud Knicks fan this year! 2010-2011 here we come!

David Update: Bosh & Wade to MIA and Boozer to Chicago. Lebron's announcing his decision tomorrow night at 9PM on ESPN. I'll be watching and crossing my fingers that he shouts out NY as his next team.

David: The Love Hates x New T-Shirts

Just got these in the mail this afternoon from our homies Kevin and Henry. These were two dudes that we met when we were out in LA who are a part of "The Love Hates" clothing line. While we were out there we got two crew neck sweatshirts before we left, but since it's summer now it was only appropriate to get the tees shipped out to us. Gray copped the black and yellow design on the black tee while I got the yellow and blue on the white. There is also a black and red design on a black tee as well, but we didn't pick that one up.

If anyone is interested in ordering these t-shirts simply message Kevin on Facebook. They go for $20 each and are a good wear for when the warm weather is around. Get on it!
