Gray: Dr. Dre x Topless

In my opinion, all of this "Detox" and "Recovery" stuff needs to end. Rappers need to stay high, do drugs, talk about violence and talk about murdering their wives... or do they? Regardless, this track is rumored to be off Dre's new album, Detox, which is supposed to turn heads, and maybe one up Eminem's Recovery. Dre, Eminem, and Nas... common and I got you lazy fools a download link. Check out the fire!

Gray: Got My Vans On...

So first semester I was stupid when it came to kicks. Rockin' my J's to parties, then being too wasted to do anything about the scuffs when I stumble back into my room. Jordans rarely make an appearance anymore anyway, since I skate to class, and I sure as hell am not skating in Jordans... and when I am not in class its either studying or partying, so you get the picture. The first time I was out in LA with David, he told me to look out for the Vans fetish this city has, and since I have been living out there, the truth behind David's words only became more apparent. Vans are cheap, comfortable, and they are fresh. I never ended up getting a pair out there, but i found a couple pair under my tree this year. I feel a collection about to begin...

David: TKFV Introduction - ChristianFGY

Christian actually has made a short appearance on TKFV before in Maestro Know's video where he visited his school in Las Vegas. In the video Maestro shares some inspiring words to his film class. Below are a few videos that Christian has put together and sent me the other day. This guy is a very talented director and I remember getting in touch with this guy when he reached out to us about our videos. Since then we've built a pretty good relationship and continue to review each others work. Besides directing Christian is also a designer and photographer.

The first video is of Dennaya Famous, owner of the store Dfame in Las Vegas. In this video he highlights the aspirations of a local stylist/vintage clothing store owner while capturing her work and store at the same time. Little side note too, I NEED SOME OF THESE ITEMS IN MY CLOSET! Wow. Check it out below:
http://www.dfamestore.com/

The second video is a preview of the Canyon Springs Basketball team documentary called, "Road to Revenge." It's a story of passion, motivation, inspiration, and dedication. I'm definitely excited to see the full version after seeing this teaser. Check it out below:

There is a lot more to come from this dude and we love everything he's put together so far. Whatever he's put his hands on lately has come out to be gold. ChristianFGY everybody. Keep an eye out.

David: Doze One x Dozin' Off (Mixtape)

The homie Doze One out of Providence, Rhode Island (my old hometown) just released this today. I respect this dudes grind and music a lot. Not many artists today have a combination of good singing and rapping like this guy and put it together like he does. There's definitely a different sound and genre Doze is bringing to the table on some of his songs on Dozin' Off. I guess it's safe to say this music is simply Doze One and nobody else is touching it.

Below are two of my favorite tracks from the mixtape, "Jump" and "Windows Down." Take a listen and download the full mixtape below. Don't miss out on this guy. He'll definitely be on TKFV a lot more.

David: OFWGKTA x Bads†anta Show

Hodgy Beats of OFWGKTA
Wednesday night (12/22), OFWGKTA took the stage at the extremely well known Roxy Theater in Los Angeles, California. All the guys in OF have quickly been recognized as some of the best live performers and for good reason. Their shows aren't only sold out every single time, but they capture the crowds attention, get them involved, keep the intensity levels up, and keep them going till the end. Something the hip hop world has really needed for a long time from my personal experiences going to concerts in the past.

Check out the footage below and support the up and coming group, OFWGKTA:

David: Mustafa Abubaker Wins Merit Award For 'Intangibles'

Mustafa Abubaker and Congressman Tom Price
The last time we featured Mustafa Abubaker, the writer of The Surrogate, was last month. About a month later and he's now one of the bloggers of the quickly growing 'The Right Kind Of Brownies' blog which features tons of interviews from people within the music and fashion world. But what's even more impressive is his recent Merit Award for a selection of his next novel Intangibles. He was in the top 5 percent of over 4,000 of America's most talented 17-18 year olds in all 9 disciplines offered. Now that's making smart cool.

Be sure to check out Mustafa Abubaker's first novel The Surrogate!

Gray: water

If you've got 20 minutes on your hands, everyone check out this amazing short film called "water". It has won 4 different film festivals and awards, and has been nominated for the AFI Best Film for 2009. Short films intrigue me because of the straight challenge of sending a strong message with such little time, which is what makes a great short film stand apart from average ones. This film sends its message, uses great shots, and has amazing visual effects... deserved all the awards it was given.

David: Sarah Kjelleren Photo of the Week!

Sarah Kjelleren
Once again Sarah Kjelleren comes back with another amazing photograph, this one of Marlena Tremback. This is definitely my favorite photo from this shoot and I know it's one of Sarah's as well. Here's what she had to say about the photo:
After taking my first trip to NYC ever, I was inspired even more by fashion. The people in the city were so unique in their tastes and it shows how you can really be anyone you want to be while you are there. I did a bit of shopping before the shoot and picked up some vintage apparel. Once my model Marlena Tremback arrived I dressed her up and we headed out into the cold. After trekking through the fields and the falling barn we headed over to a bamboo patch my father had planted. There I pulled out my film camera and took a few shots of Marlena in the leaves. Those can be seen on my blog (www.SarahKjelleren.com).  We then ran inside did a quick outfit change where she was able to wear her grandmothers vintage jacket, and headed out again to the "Stonehenge." The lighting was incredible and air was fresh and crisp. It was a very successful shoot, with many more to come!

Gray: Put It Down!

So I have been studying studying studying for finals, trying to finish this semester strong! During every study session you gotta take some breaks and bump some beats, and let me tell you, this song has been playing non-stop for the past week. Bun-B killed the whole album "Trill OG", but this song has to be my favorite. Drake has a good verse + a catchy chorus too, give it a listen! Below is the music video, produced by Mr. Boomtown... really feeling the intro scene. Check it out...

Gray: I'm Back!

For those who have been paying attention for the past couple months this blog has been completely run by David. He has been making the posts, making trips to New York, pretty much just stayin on top of it all. To be honest, the college life just kept me super busy for a while, and I definitely lost focus in both TKFV and my love for making edits and working with film. Starting today, things are going to change. You will be seeing a lot more of me here, and once I get my t2i footage working smoothly with Final Cut again some edits will be coming out real soon too! Below are some stills I took from the footage I have got here so far in LA, hope you enjoy!

David: New York City Trip with Sarah Kjelleren

Sarah Kjelleren & myself
Minus the Thanksgiving and family festivities that have been going on the last couple of days, last Friday (11/19) till Tuesday (11/23) I was in New York City with my amazingly talented friend and photographer, Sarah Kjelleren. New York City is like a second home to me and I love going in to get away from everything going on in Vermont, but this trip was a little different. Of course many of the long time TKFV readers are probably familiar with our "Sarah Kjelleren Photo of the Week" post, have seen her work, and recognize the name in this writeup, but probably do not know that she had never been to New York City before this trip. So when the opportunity came along to bring her with me I couldn't pass it up.

Day 1:
Brad Digital
The first day wasn't the most exciting since we were just arriving after a five and a half hour drive from Vermont, but I checked into my hotel and brought Sarah to our friend Crystal Potvin's dorm where she was staying. Right after we went down to my friend Brad Digital's store, Little Brooklyn, in SoHo located on Kenmare and Elizabeth, we got dinner at this Hispanic restaurant with him and his intern, Hannah Jade. Then followed that with a few parties, but nothing too intense. Just a simple and average day.

Day 2:
Great $cott
The second day was definitely the most eventful of them all. We started off at Brad Digital's store again and Sarah had her first photo shoot with Great $cott, CEO of The Liaison Group (link is to a good article about Great $cott and the company). I did a little shopping at Brad's store and picked up two pairs of jeans (the kinds that everyone has to stop and say, "Where did you get those?"), a t-shirt, a pair of limited Tokyo edition converses, and a reversible jacket (which Brad described as a good getaway jacket in case you shoot someone in the club).

Afterwards I ran over to meet with the owner and two other guys from NoLabel Watches, talked business, and they hooked me up with one of their watches. Definitely a huge shout out to these guys and another look at the post I put up of them and Cavi Sports last week. Loved the vision and ideas they have in that company at the moment.
Red NoLabel Watch
While I was out with NoLabel, Brad Digital took Sarah Kjelleren, Crystal Potvin, and Hannah Jade around SoHo for a bit and ran into Ricky of Dee & Ricky.
Brad Digital & Ricky (Dee & Ricky)

Then after my NoLabel meeting was done Sarah Kjelleren, Brad Digital, and myself headed over to a Richie Rich POPLUXE (link to an article about the runway show during New York Fashion Week) event where Sarah quickly fell in love with New York City in a heartbeat.
Richie Rich
Richie was definitely a cool and relaxed guy, and he definitely wasn't afraid to pose for pictures at all haha. To be able to talk and hangout with one of the most well known stylists and designers in the industry was a lot of fun though. Sarah even got one of the POPLUXE shirts and I joked with her about how one of her first New York City photo shoots was with Richie Rich.
Leebo Freeman
Richie Rich, Brad Digital, & Myself

Day 3:
Crystal Potvin & myself
On the third day we were all tired out from Saturday night, so we decided to take this day off for the most part and do a little bit of shopping. I showed Sarah around SoHo, my favorite place in town, a little more and stopped at places like Opening Ceremony, Oak, Uniqlo, and stopped to see some of my homies Gabriel Acevedo, of the ninGa turDels, and Frendy Lemorin at the Bape store.

Day 4:
Frendy Lemorin
On our last full day in the city, Sarah and I met up with Frendy Lemorin to do a quick photo shoot (click the link to see most the photos featured on Frendy's site). It was funny because they had been planning this photo shoot for years and it finally happened just last week. For those that don't know of Frendy either, I used to work with him on his old blog, *General-Made. This dudes like an older brother to me.
Frendy Lemorin & myself
To end the day we met up with designer/stylist Ugo Mozie, trend reporter and media personality, Daver Campbell, the owners of Nous Sommes, and designers/stylists/models Coco&Breezy for dinner in Union Square.
(From Left to Right) Coco of Coco&Breezy, Me, Sarah Kjelleren, Ugo Mozie, Breezy of Coco&Breezy, and the designers from Nous Sommes (Daver Campbell wasn't in this photo)
Once again New York City has brought me another good trip and it was great to be able to experience it with none other than Sarah Kjelleren.

David: Grace Potter x Path To Vermont Documentary Series (Part 1)

Like Grace Potter says, I'm proud to be from Vermont as well. And I'm extremely proud to feature a very talented Vermonters like Grace Potter on TKFV. In Part 1 of a three part documentary series of iconic Vermonters, Path to Vermont sits down with the lovely musician, Grace Potter of Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, and talks to her about Vermont, her life, and what she has done with local businesses in the community. There is also a clip from a performance held at the Burlington Waterfront in Vermont back in August of this year. Check it out below:

David: Frendy Lemorin x The Yellow Brick Road: Vladimir Calixte

Above is the 5th episode of Frendy Lemorin's documentary series, "The Yellow Brick Road," featuring Haitian-American Comedian/Actor Vladimir Calixte. Known for his comedic skits featuring his alter-ego 'Haitian V,' Vlad wants the world to see that his talents surpass one character. In this episode we take a sneak peak into his personal life. He discusses growing up as a Haitian American, as well as the difficulties that are faced in the entertainment industry.

I was very impressed with how this video turned out. I enjoyed the last four (which you can find on Frendy's vimeo page or personal website), but I thought this one was a major step up. I look forward to the next few episodes to come and definitely give a huge shout out to everything he is doing right now. From first meeting him at the Bape Store in New York City, to working with him over at his first blog, *General-Made, and seeing the creative work and mind of such a great individual continue to expand has truly been an inspiration to me. Frendy is like family to me and without him many of the things I am doing today probably would not be true if he did not introduce me and teach me so many things.

Gray: Bombay by El Guincho (Video)

Sarah Kjelleren sent this over to us a few hours ago and I thought it was worthy of being posted onto TKFV even though it's about a month old.

El Guincho is Pablo Díaz-Reixa, a native of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria living in Barcelona, Spain. Also a member of Coconot, Díaz-Reixa rose to prominence with his 2007 album, Alegranza. His musical style relies heavily on the use of sampling and incorporates elements of afrobeat, dub, tropicália and rock.

Music speaks the same language everywhere. Check out the video below:

David: TKFV Introduction - 17 Year Old Mustafa Abubaker And His Book, The Surrogate

Mustafa Abubaker at a book signing
Our homie Mustafa Abubaker, a 17 year old senior at Woodward Academy in Atlanta, shot us an email the other day about his first novel, The Surrogate. Of course Gray and myself were interested the first minute we opened up the email and began reading it because we are huge supporters of young people like us chasing their dreams and making them into realities. Young musicians, directors, and in this case young authors have TKFV's support and attention 100%. Check out Mustafa's biography below:

Biography:

Mustafa Abubaker penned a 108 page novel, The Surrogate, dealing with the coming-of-age of an unknowingly adopted child through the eyes of his father. Despite abundant loss, the characters exemplify perseverance, providing a very realistic approach to many of life's obstacles. Mustafa is currently hard at work promoting his novel and has his eyes set on a future that heavily involves writing.

David: Skateistan - To Live and Skate Kabul

I was just introduced to this video today and after watching it I am speechless. The work done in this video and the project they put together over seas is amazing. "Skateistan: To Live And Skate Kabul" is a beautifully shot film that follows the lives of a group of young skateboarders in Afghanistan. Operating against the backdrop of war and bleak prospects, the Skateistan charity project is the world’s first co-educational skateboarding school, where a team of international volunteers work with girls and boys between the ages of 5 and 17, an age group largely untouched by other aid programmes. Check out this amazing film below:
